1. Who these terms are between
They are between you and the operator identified in the Impressum. They apply to the website at aliquotchem.com, its subdomains, and every calculator, dataset, and assistant offered there. By using Aliquot you accept them. If you do not, do not use it.
If you use Aliquot in the course of your work for an institution, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for that use.
2. What Aliquot is
A calculation and reference aid for laboratory preparation: dilutions, molarity, buffers, gels, unit conversion, hazard lookups, and an optional AI assistant. It is educational and productivity software.
3. What Aliquot is not
Not a certified instrument. Not a safety authority. Not a substitute for a safety data sheet, a risk assessment, a qualified supervisor, or your institution’s standard operating procedures. Not medical, veterinary, clinical, pharmaceutical, or legal advice. Not validated for any regulated purpose, including GLP, GMP, ISO 17025, or any diagnostic use.
You remain the chemist. Every number Aliquot produces is a suggestion to be checked against your own knowledge, your reagents, your equipment, and the official documentation before anything is weighed, mixed, or heated. Where a value matters to safety, verify it independently.
4. The assistant
The assistant produces plausible text, not verified fact, and it can be confidently wrong. It may misstate a formula, invent a value, or misread your question. Treat every output as a draft from a knowledgeable but fallible colleague, and confirm numbers in the deterministic calculators, which are tested.
It declines requests it reads as unsafe or unlawful, and those limits are deliberately conservative. It is not a safety oracle: a refusal is not a judgement about you, and an answer is not a certification that something is safe. How the assistant works explains this in detail.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use Aliquot to plan or carry out anything unlawful, or anything designed to harm people;
- attempt to obtain instructions for weapons, explosives, or illicit drug manufacture, whatever the framing;
- circumvent, reset, or automate around a usage allowance, or share a personal plan beyond your own use;
- scrape, resell, or redistribute the datasets or the assistant’s output as a competing service;
- probe, load-test, or attack the service, or use it in a way that degrades it for others.
We may suspend access that breaches this section, with notice where circumstances allow. For a paid plan, we refund the unused remainder unless the breach was deliberate and serious.
6. What is free
Every calculator, every conversion, the full working shown on each result, all hazard data, offline use, label scanning, timers, the cookbook and inventory, and 90 days of local protocol history. Permanently free, no account, no card.
The AI assistant has a free monthly allowance. It is finite because each question costs real money to answer.
7. Paid plans and prices
The plan price is shown on the pricing page. Before you confirm a purchase, Stripe Checkout shows the plan, billing period, and total amount then due. Any applicable tax or other charge must be shown there before you complete the purchase. A changed price never applies to a period you have already paid for.
A paid plan is activated only after Checkout succeeds and the purchase is attached to your signed-in Aliquot account. Payment is handled by Stripe; Aliquot does not receive or store your card number.
8. Term, renewal, and cancellation
A plan runs for the period you chose and renews automatically for the same period unless cancelled before the period ends. Cancel any time from the billing portal or by writing to us. Cancellation stops the next renewal; it does not shorten the period you already paid for, and you keep access until it ends.
Your statutory right of withdrawal as a consumer is separate from, and unaffected by, this section. See Right of withdrawal.
9. AI allowances and fair use
Every plan, including paid ones, carries a finite monthly AI allowance, plus hourly and daily ceilings that exist to stop one person or one script consuming a shared resource. The allowances are published with each plan. Unbounded would not be fair use, it would be an unpriced liability, and pretending otherwise would eventually mean withdrawing the service from everyone.
If you hit a ceiling through ordinary heavy work rather than automation, write to us. That is a conversation, not an accusation.
10. Devices
A personal subscription may be used on up to three devices. Restoring on a fourth releases the least recently used one. This keeps personal plans personal. If you have a genuine need for more, write to hello@aliquotchem.com.
11. Availability
Aliquot is provided without a service level agreement and without a promised uptime figure. The calculators are designed to keep working offline once the page has loaded, which is the strongest availability guarantee we can honestly make. The AI assistant depends on external providers and can be unavailable, rate-limited, or slower than usual, and we may disable it at short notice to control cost or to respond to abuse.
12. Changes to the service and to these terms
Features are added and occasionally removed. We will not remove a substantial part of what a paid plan was sold on without offering the remainder back. Changes to these terms that affect a paid subscriber materially are announced at least 30 days ahead; if you do not accept them, you may cancel with effect from the change and receive the unused remainder.
13. Your content and your data
What you calculate, save, and store stays yours. Most of it never leaves your browser at all. We claim no licence over your protocols, your inventory, or anything you type into the assistant beyond what is technically required to answer the question in front of us. See Privacy.
14. Our intellectual property
The software, the interface, the curated datasets, and the wording are ours or our licensors’. You may use Aliquot’s outputs freely in your own work, including commercially: a calculated protocol is your result, not our property. You may not copy the product itself, or build a competing service from its datasets.
15. Liability
We are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for injury to life, body, or health, and wherever German law does not permit a limitation, including under the Product Liability Act.
For ordinary negligence we are liable only for breach of an obligation essential to the contract, and then only for foreseeable damage typical of this kind of contract. Any further liability is excluded.
Given what Aliquot is, one consequence should be explicit rather than hidden in the wording above: we do not accept liability for the outcome of an experiment, a preparation, a purchase, or a safety decision you make using a value from Aliquot or from the assistant. Section 3 explains why, and no amount of care in our code changes it. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
16. Governing law and jurisdiction
German law applies. If you are a consumer resident in the EU, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your own country, which nothing here may take away. For businesses, the exclusive place of jurisdiction is the operator’s registered seat.
17. Dispute resolution
We are not obliged to participate in, and do not currently participate in, proceedings before a consumer arbitration board within the meaning of the German Consumer Dispute Resolution Act. Complaints are answered directly at hello@aliquotchem.com, and we would always rather resolve something that way.
18. If a clause fails
If any provision is or becomes invalid, the rest stays in force, and the invalid provision is treated as replaced by the lawful provision closest to its purpose.
